Cosmetic surgery is one of the most collaborative forms of surgery... where decisions are made between you and the plastic surgeon.
And you'll certainly be collaborating in the picking the breast implants part of your boobie journey!
It's A Science
If you’ve done even a little bit of research you’ll know there are a LOT of choices where breast implants are concerned...
Round or shaped? Silicone or saline? Smooth or textured? What profile? Which brand? What size?
Choices, choices, choices... it can all seem a bit daunting.
So, if you've been asking yourself whether a particular implant is what you want and you’ve been doing some home research, stop! Picking the perfect breast implants is not a solo part of your journey.
Picking the perfect implant is actually quite a scientific process!
Two Minds Are Better Than One
Your plastic surgeon, as an expert in breast augmentation, will use their extensive experience and cosmetic artistry to help you choose the perfect breast implants.
They will work with you by asking you loads of questions about what you want to achieve from breast surgery.
Each question will lead them to the next and the next and the next... and at the end of it... THEN you will have your perfect breast implants.
So, how IS an implant selected?
This is your time to shine... go to your consultation armed with an idea of what your goals are and select some boob inspiration photos. (Check out my Boobie Guides here!)
AND (this bit is really important)... suspend ALL your expectations about breast implants (for now)!
You don't have to take my word for it, Dr. Jeremy Pyle agrees that expectations are better left at home- "I can't tell you how many times I have had someone walk into my office certain they know what they want only to find out that, once armed with all of the available information, that's not what they want at all!"
This is the bit where you meet your plastic surgeon and you tell them about your wishes and goals. A consultation is your open door to establish that your surgeon understands your goals so they can help you reach them.
Choosing the implant that's best for you is about understanding what things will make you happy, and what will potentially make you unhappy.
So your plastic surgeon will now ask you all those questions to guide them in selecting the right breast implants for you!
This part is about establishing your breast baseline, or what exactly you're starting with.
Your surgeon will examine your breasts and take several measurements (including your height and weight) to build a profile of you. These measurements will be used to recommend the right implant to fit your existing proportions.
Some plastic surgeons also use 3D imaging to show you your before proportions and, after selecting an implant, show you what you will look like after.
You should get the opportunity to see, feel and try on samples of various breast implants (kinda like try before you buy).
This is where you decide what breast implants you will ultimately go with. Most of the time the hardest part about this decision is the size (cc's - the volume of the implant).
It's perfectly normal to be indecisive about size... expect to spend a bit of time alternating your decision between various sizes. If you find yourself really stuck, trust your surgeon's opinion.
And don't get lost in the comparison black hole. CC's look different on everyone, it all depends on your individual anatomy and starting breast tissue.
If all of this sounds confusing try not to worry... I promise it's not that way in person for your plastic surgeon, who has the science of picking the perfect breast implants down to a T.
Take a load off.... Your plastic surgeon should guide you through every step of this process and ensure that you are fully informed on all of the options that are available to you.
